For the D202 Multimedia qualification, students need an intermediate knowledge of one or more multimedia authoring tools. The combination of MindView and Mediator is perfect for creating the elements required for this qualification:
a Trailer
a Virtual Tour
an Interactive Quiz
MindView, based on the Mind Mapping theory, is a brilliant tool for organising information. The branches represent the pages of your final project or e-portfolio. By adding text, images, video, Flash media, HTML etc. to each of the branches, you are effectively building the pages of your final project. Your export options out of MindView are: Mediator, HTML, Word, RTF, PowerPoint or as a Picture.
Mediator is an extremely powerful, yet inclusive, multimedia authoring tool. You can begin your project in MindView and export it to Mediator or begin directly in Mediator. By following the Introduction to web page creation tutorial, the student will gain the basic Mediator knowledge necessary to complete the three tasks of this unit.
The tutorial Creating a timed presentation will give the student the essential skills to complete the Trailer assignment. The key to a Trailer is the ability to use a timeline. The presentation takes the viewer through a combination of motion, imagery and sound executed at different times along a timeline.
Students who follow the tutorial Creating a digital yearbook will learn how to use a split screen layout, where clicking a thumbnail on one side of the page displays detailed information on the particular subject on the other side of the page. This will provide some essential skills for completing the Virtual Tour.
Completing the tutorials Formal answer in Mediator 9 and Addition and Subtraction in Mediator 9, combined with all the skills achieved by following the other tutorials, will equip the students with a number of different ways to complete the Quiz assignment.
All final projects may be exported from Mediator as Flash websites, and then combined in MindView to produce the e-portfolio for D202.
ScreenCorder 4 is a tool for recording on-screen activity. Everything that takes place, including keyboard actions, speech, mouse clicks and movement, is recorded. ScreenCorder 4.0 also comes with a Web Builder wizard. This is a separate program for use with ScreenCorder which allows you to create a website to display your videos. Along with submitting your e-Portfolio you are required to produce evidence of your work for a final mark for the DiDA qualification. Reviewing your work can be one or a combination of:
a written evaluation
a verbal evaluation recorded in an appropriate way
a presentation
In the tutorial Review and evaluation with ScreenCorder 4 we look at how you can demonstrate how you went about completing a section of the coursework, record what you see on your screen, verbally explain it at the same time, and save it as a Flash® video. This tutorial also looks at combining these videos into a presentation website and adding a written evaluation on the homepage, all within ScreenCorder 4.
